Less than twelve hours after the AkwaIbom State Governor, Obong Godswill Obot Akpabio convened an emergency security stakeholders meeting to deliberate on the incessant politically motivated kidnapping in the state, former Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and staunch supporter of the governor, General Edet Akpan who was kidnapped last Sunday was in the early hours of yesterday released.

Akwa Ibom State is among the nine Niger Delta States to benefit from the Micro Project Programme of the European Union (EU).
The four year programme is expected to increase equitable access to basic infrastructure services per state, as well as income-generating options and sustainable livelihood development for over 70,000 people.
Under this programme, one hundred and thirty projects will be executed in all the thirty one Local Government Areas of the state under the MPP9 Programme.

The project monitoring team of the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has commenced its 2010 projects inspection and evaluation in the state with a visit to various projects sites in Oron Local Government Area.
Receiving the team, the Chairman, Hon. Victor Ini Okon accompanied by the principal officers of the council described the visit as timely and commendable as it provided the opportunity to appraise the efforts of the council in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

The monumental achievements of Chief Godswill Akpabio in areas of infrastructure and human development have been highly commended by socio-political group known as Ikono Grassroot Vanguard.
Handling down the commendation during a courtesy call on the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Renewal, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, the Secretary, Dr. Anthony Usoro, in the group’s address expressed appreciation to the Governor for his tremendous contributions in the development of the state and declared support for the second term bid of the Governor come 2011.

West African College of Surgeons has been urged to set up a Standing Committee on Emergency Disaster Response Unit to intervene rapidly by providing medical assistance to disaster victims globally.
Akwa Ibom Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio who made the call when the President and members of West African College of Surgeons paid him a courtesy visit bemoaned the adverse effects of the recent earthquake in Haiti, a black island community located in the Caribbean area.
