1ST PHASE TROPICANA PROJECT FOR COMMISSIONING THIS YEAR

The first phase of the multi billion naira Tropicana Entertainment Project – the Cineplex would be ready for commissioning in June this year.
The Project Co-ordinator of Silver Bird Construction Company, the main Contractor handling the project, Mr. Skidd Ikeme Fuwa dropped the hint while briefing members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation who were on an inspection who were on an tour of the project.
He said, the company was committed towards delivering the project on schedule to satisfy the confidence reposed on it by the government and people of the state.

Mr. Fuwa maintained that the company has evolved a sustainable working shift arrangement to cope with the volume of work at hand and assured that delivery deadline would be met.
In a chat with the newsmen at the end of the tour, the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Sam Ikon said, the essence of the tour of the project was because of its economic importance to the development of Akwa Ibom State and urged the companies handling the various units of the Tropicana project to expedite action to facilitate timely completion.
In his welcome remarks, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Enobong Umoetuk said the Ministry of Special Duties was following closely the level of construction work at the site and urged the main contractor, Silver Bird to step up work in all fronts to bring the project to fruition.
He also requested the committee to approve sufficient funds in the 2010 Budget to enable the company to complete some of the facilities for use by Akwa Ibom people before the end of the year.
Earlier, the Special Adviser on Technical Matters, Engr. Etido Inyang had briefed the Committee members on the project design through video clip and re-emphasized government desire for early completion of the project for commissioning.
Present at the occasion were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties, Elder Sam Umoh, members of the Technical Committee and the site Engineer in the Ministry of Special Duties, Engr. Ephraim Udosen among others.
