2011: Akpabio Drums Up Support For President Jonathan

Akwa Ibom Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio has called on Nigerians to supprt President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011 general elections to continue in the implementation of the Federal Government’s Post-Amnesty Programme.
Chief Akpabio described as unfortunate the sudden demise of President Musa Yar’Adua, and stressed the need for Nigerians to allow President Jonathan to complete that tenure.
The Governor who addressed Peoples Democratic Party (PDD) executive members recently at Ibom Hall, Uyo said, he was not talking about zoning, though he is a product of zoning formula.
“Don’t allow anybody to confuse you to support any other aspirant. We want the unity of this country. I will be happy if we remain one united country. This will engender a sense of love and belonging among us”, he stated.
Chief Akpabio thanked PDP faithful for coming out in large number to accord Mr. President a rousing welcome during his maiden official visit to the state last month and urged them to be firm and steadfast in supporting his administration, assuring that the party structure in the state was intact.
The state Chairman of PDP, Prince Uwem Ita Etuk commended the Governor for convening the meeting and regretted some criminal activities perpetrated by the party men, warning “Let us not criminalize politics. We should draw a line between politics and criminality”.
Prince Etuk dispelled the rumour that the party structure had been changed, saying, “there are no changes in the party executive. Don’t be apprehensive about changes. Be steadfast. The party wants to streamline to know those who had died or had taken up political positions such as village or clan head in order to fill the vacant positions”.
