31 Projects for Essien Udim

No fewer than 428 life impacting projects have been commissioned across the state by Governor Godswill Akpabio under the 2010 community development scheme out of which 31 people-oriented projects were inaugurated in Essien Udim Local Government.
The Governor who was represented at the ceremony by his Commissioner for Rural Development, Pastor Oyong Asuquo, stated that the projects inaugurated were meant to change the lives of the people in line with his earlier promise that their lives will never be the same again.
Commending the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Committee for the timely completion of the projects, Chief Akpabio implored the Chairman of the area to ensure that these projects were well guarded, treasured and protected from vandals. “This way, more will definitely be done for the people of the area.”, he added.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Committee, Mr. Bassey Akpan, who was represented by the Coordinator, Mr. Friday Udoh, thanked the people for enabling them to work in a conducive environment, adding that although a total of 31 projects have been inaugurated for them in two trips, more will definitely be done for them.
Mr. Udo assured the people that in the next phase of inauguration, emphasis will be laid on mini water scheme and electricity, and added that they should continuously support Governor Akpabio’s Government.
Welcoming the Governor and his entourage to his hometown, the Chairman of the local government area, Mr. Nse Ntuen thanked Chief Akpabio for doing so much for his local government and the state as a whole and promised that the support of the entire area is assured come 2011.
At Independent High School, renowned in the area as the oldest, the principal, Mrs. Atim Akpabio thanked the Governor immensely for the massive renovation carried out in the school and requested that the deplorable state of boarding facilities be considered as well.
Among other requests by the Principal were a befitting staff quarters, provision of books, new school library and construction of more classroom blocks for the skyrocketing population of the school.
The clan head of Ikot Ama, Okon, Dr. Lambert Udo thanked Chief Akpabio for the mini water inaugurated in the community, adding that the project was what the community was looking for, and has been provided free of charge.
Dr. Udo assured the Governor that the community would provide 100% support for him come 2011.
Amongst projects commissioned were mini water schemes, electricity, renovated and constructed classroom and office blocks, and a newly constructed health centre.
It could be recalled that two days earlier, 12 life impacting projects – including rehabilitated and new school blocks, mini water schemes, court houses and health centres – were commissioned in Nsit Ubium local government area by Governor Akpabio.
The Governor who was represented by the Attorney General of the State, Barr. Ekpenyong Ntekim urged the people to be vigilant and protect the projects in their domain as personal assets and pledged to do more in the area.
Speaking at the reception, the Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Committee, Mr. Bassey Akpan, pointed out that a second trip in less than five weeks shows Governor Akpabio’s commitment to keeping the promises in the area.
Mr. Akpan enjoined the people of the area to be steadfast in their support for the present government, adding that this way, they won’t be left behind during the next phase of development.
