Afaha Okpo Gets New Clan Head

A new Clan Head has emerged for Afaha Okpo Clan in Oron Local Government Area.
He is Offong Francis Okon Eyo, a retird Vice Principal and the present Village Head of Udung Okung In Eyoabasi group of villages.
It would be recalled that the clan headship position in Afaha Okpo was subjected to controversy and infighting after the demise of the former clan head, Offong John Bassey in 2006.
However, in a peacefully contested election held at the Local Government Council hall, Oron, Offong Francis Eyo defeated his only opponent, Offong Etim Ala by two votes.
The exercise was witnessed by senior staff of the Unified Local Government and the Secretary of Oron Traditional Rulers Council, Mr. Uwem Utip.
Speaking shortly before the commencement of the democratic exercise whereby only recognized and certified village heads were delegates, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee and a leader in Oron nation, Chief Iniette Iniekung, commended Governor Akpabio for according Royal Fathers in Akwa Ibom their pride of place in the scheme of things.
He enjoined all and sundry to support religiously the Governor’s second term bid.
Chief Iniekung, while appreciating the remarkable contributions of Oron Council Boss, Hon. Victor Okon towards the development of Oron, also solicited for sustained solidarity and support for him to deliver more dividends of democracy to the area.
He urged the contestants to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship at the poll and expressed optimism that emergence of a new clan head for Afaha Okpo clan will mark another milestone in the life of the indigenes.
In his acceptance speech, the new clan head, Offong Francis Eyo pledged to render unalloyed services to Afaha Okpo Clan.
While extending an olive branch and a hand of fellowship to his opponent, Offong Eyo, assuring that every traditional ruler will have a unique role to play in the new Afaha Okpo Clan Councils of Chiefs.
