AK TO BENEFIT FROM EU MICRO PROJECT PROGRAMME
Akwa Ibom State is among the nine Niger Delta States to benefit from the Micro Project Programme of the European Union (EU).
The four year programme is expected to increase equitable access to basic infrastructure services per state, as well as income-generating options and sustainable livelihood development for over 70,000 people.
Under this programme, one hundred and thirty projects will be executed in all the thirty one Local Government Areas of the state under the MPP9 Programme.
The Commissioner for Economic Development, Barr. Godwill Umoh who disclosed this while meeting with the European Union representatives and Chairmen of the 31 Local Government Areas noted that government was poised to ensure access to healthcare services, and ensure full development of human resources and potentials particularly to women and children at grassroots.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Development, Dr. Akpanim Ekpe, stated that the state government was in a hurry to develop and enthrone sustainable development in its society.
Represented by the Director of International Cooperation, Mr. Ishmael Akpan, the Permanent Secretary said the State Government has identified the European Union as a worthwhile Donor Agency to partner under the MPP9 Programme.
In his contribution, the Project Engineer for the programme Engr. Imeh Inyang, encouraged those Local Government Areas which have not returned their impact forms to do so immediately to make them eligible to benefit from the programme adding that the programme will take off in April, 2010 after due assessment and visitation communities.
Responding, the Executive Chairman of Ikot Ekpene local Government, Pastor Sunny Ibuot, commended the state government for the initiative and all present for their useful contributions.
Also in attendance were, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Chris Etuk among others.
