AK International Airport Gets Instrument Flight Rules

Akwa Ibom International Airport has been upgraded from the daylight Visual Flight Rules (VFR) operations to Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) with hours of operations extended to 8 p. m.

The Director-General of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Dr. Haroid Demuren who made this known when he paid a courtesy visit on Governor Godswill Akpabio at Governor’s Lodge, noted that this was done in line with the controlling ATC Terminal hours of operations in Calabar.

Dr. Demuren thanked the state government for maintaining safety measures in the operations of the airport and advised the Airport Authority to demonstrate strict compliance with all Civil Aviation Safety Regulations at all times.

Chief Akpabio thanked the Director-General for coming to the state to deliver the letter personally and described his work as demanding.

The Governor commended the federal Government for the support given to the airport so far and pledged the state government’s readiness to set standards in the airport, noting “we won’t spare any time to ensure the airport attends international; standard”.

He disclosed that the state government would commence construction of new terminal building in January next year which is to be completed in 18 months, saying the extension is a major signpost and a major economic development of the airport.
