AK National Assembly Caucus Adopts Akpabio for Second Term
Members of National Assembly Caucus of Akwa Ibom extraction have through a voice motion re-affirmed their support for the second term bid of Governor Godswill Akpabio in Office.
The motion which was moved by the Akwa Ibom Caucus Leader, Senator Effiong Bob during the celebration of this year’s Democracy Day at Uyo Sports Stadium was seconded by Rt. Hon. Bernard A. Udoh, representing Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abuja.
According to him, “we on behalf of the entire people in the state and in the National Assembly Caucus having seen what the Governor has done for the past three years hereby move that he should continue in the office to complete all the on-going projects”.
After the motion, the Senator put it into a voice vote “ayes” and “nays” and the “ayes” carried the day amidst jubilation by other caucus members and the enthusiastic crowd.
Prior to the motion, Senator Bob, who represents Uyo Senatorial District had enumerated the achievements of Akpabio administration in the last three years to include introduction of free and compulsory education and massive infrastructural development in the state among others.
The Assembly man recalled that the late Pa Obafemi Awolowo’s free education policy led to the education of many people in the defunct Western Region and hoped that in the future the Akpabio’s free education would produce many directors of companies, lawyers, bankers and other educated ones to man various sectors in the society.
Flanked by senators Eme Ufot Ekaete representing Eket and Aloysius Etok representing Ikot Ekpene as well as Eseme Eyibo, Aniedi King, Ekperikpe Ekpo, Sabbath Obot, Pat Etette Ineme, among others in the House of Representatives, Senator Bob used the occasion to congratulate the people on the celebration of Democracy Day and third year of Governor Akpabio administration.
Responding, the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio observed that change has come to the state through the execution of various people-oriented projects and asked the people to embrace it for better.
He thanked the Akwa Ibom people for the show of solidarity to his administration and urged them to disregard the handiwork of detractors and blackmailers, stating, “We won’t be distracted by cosmopolitan politicians who move about with baseless petitions”.
“We have not arrived yet but we will get there when industries start. We will get there when Aba-Ikot Ekpene-Uyo Federal Road is dualised. We will get there when Eket-Etinan Road is dualised”, he added.
In a goodwill message, the state Deputy Governor, Engr. Patrick Ekpotu recalled that from 1994 – 2007, Nigerians had a President who ruled the country for eight years while in Akwa Ibom, the Governor ruled the state for eight years, reasoning that it would be injustice and a misnomer not to allow Akpabio equally rule the state for eight years.
Engr. Ekpotu painted an analogy of a bird that flies away from the broken branch of a tree due to the fact that the bird has instinct and not reason like man and advised aggrieved Akwa Ibom politicians who left Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for one thing or the other to show reason not instinct like a bird in returning to the party to avoid being estranged in the future, because, according to him, nature abhors vacuum.
At the occasion, Senator Anietie Okon, Vice Chairman of Arik Airlines; Edidem Papa Udo Tim Tingiko Enodien, Akwa Ibom Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Council; Comrade Unyime Usoro, Chairperson of Nigeria Labour Congress, Akwa Ibom Council; Onofiok Luke, President of Nigerian Youth Parliament; Iniobong Ememobong Essien, President of National Association of Nigerian Students and Mrs. Grace Anwana, Akwa Ibom Head of Civil Service, among others delivered goodwill messages.
