AKISIEC To Build Office In All LGAs
The State Government has reiterated its intention to build Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) permanent office in all 31 Local Government Councils in the State to ensure effective discharge of its functions.
The Chairman of AKISIEC, Mrs. Gloria Ukpong made this known in Nsit Ubium Local Government area when she led the commission members to a working visit to the area.
Mrs. Ukpong said since Government was committed to ensuring that people at the grassroots practically feel and enjoy the dividends of democracy, adding that the process of actualizing this dream must be hitch-free and therefore appealed to council Chairmen to donate land for the building of the permanent AKISIEC office in their domain.
She challenged Chairmen and Councilors in the state to emulate the all facets developmental spirit of the state Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio by trying to leave behind developmental imprint and impact in their areas for posterity.
Mrs. Ukpong specifically commended politicians in Nsit Ubium for their mature and peaceful manner with which they conducted themselves during the last council elections and urged them to exhibit such peaceful disposition in the up coming elections.
The AKISIEC Boss, however, warned politicians in the state whose stock in trade was thuggery and destruction of election materials to have a rethink as government has set every machinery in motion to deal decisively with any one caught perpetuating such act.
She urged parties and politicians not to impose any candidate on the electorates, rather the people should be allowed to chose for themselves credible and acceptable candidates to run for any office.
Mrs. Ukpong while commanding Nsit Ubium Council for the cordial relationship existing between the council and the AKISSIEC staff in the area, urged the council to empower women of the area to fully participate in politics.
The Chairman of Nsit Ubium, Surveyor Chris Ekpo commended Mrs. Gloria Ukpong and members of AKISIEC for the successful conduct of last Local Government Elections, stressing that Nsit Ubium is always noted for strict adherence to democratic process, due to acceptable democratic structure put in place by the elders of the area.
The Council Boss used the opportunity to intimate the AKISIEC Chairman of his administration achievement which include, building of 30 bed ward, provision of solar powered water system in the area, renovation of primary school buildings, provision of writing and reading materials as well as building and furnishing of 3 bedroom flat for doctors in the area among others.
