AKPABIO COMMENDS NIGERIAN NAVY
Governor Godswill Akpabio has commended the Nigerian Navy for its role in maintaining peace and security in Akwa Ibom State.
He gave the commendation at the Government House, Uyo, when he received the Commanding Officer, NNS Victory, Commodore Joseph Jatu who paid him a courtesy call.
Chief Akpabio who was represented by his Deputy, Engr. Patrick Ekpotu, noted particularly, the efforts of the Navy in containing the insurgence of cross border criminals, without which he said, the development vision of the present administration would have been threatened.
He lauded the Forward Operations Base in Ibaka for maintaining very cordial relationship with the civilian population in the area, since its establishment and called for sustenance of the commendable relationship.
The Governor, who assured the Navy High Command of the continued cooperation and support of the State government to the Navy to execute its mandate in the Akwa Ibom, applauded the Commanding Officer for decision to pay the courtesy call.
The Commanding Officer had earlier told the Governor that the visit was essentially to pay homage to the State Government and Akwa Ibom people, following his assumption of duty at the Command.
He thanked the State Government for all the assistance extended to the Navy and the Forward Operations Base, Ibaka in particular.
Commodore Jatu affirmed that the Navy would continue o beef up security at the coastal area, with a view to enhancing the unhindered growth and development of Akwa Ibom.
The Commanding Officer was accompanied by the Staff Officer, Lt. Commander D.M.Sule and the Commander Forward Operations Base, Ibaka, Navy Captain M.C., Okonkwo.
