Akpabio Inaugurates Four Projects In Ibeno
The Inauguration Team put in place by Government to inaugurate projects executed by the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Co-ordinating Committee, has commissioned four projects in Ibeno Local Government Area.
The projects are: Newly Constructed Classroom Block at Government Primary School, Okoroutip; Store/Laboratory Block at primary health Centre, Upenekang; Computer Centre at Secondary Grammar School, Upenekang and Maternity Ward at primary Health centre, Mkpanak.
Speaking in each of the project sites and venue of the Civic Reception organized in his honour, the State Governor, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio, said that he was in Ibeno to give the area a new lease of life by taking it to the next level, hence, the construction of a new maternity ward and laboratory block in primary Health centres, geared towards the drastic reduction of maternal/infant mortality rates.
Represented by his Special Adviser on Political and legislative Affairs, Barr. Jerry Akpan, the Governor who had to cross the Qua Iboe River with his entourage in canoes to commission a new classroom block at Okoroutip, stated that this was aimed at further bettering and strengthening his Administration’s free education policy.
Expressing appreciation to the people of Ibeno for according him a rousing welcome, Governor Akpabio said he was overwhelmed by the people’s support for his government and disclosed that besides the siting of projects in the area, he had also ensured the appointment of their son into the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Responding to some of the complaints brought forward by the people, the Governor told the mammoth crowd that their son in the NDDC owed them a duty to put things right in Ibeno, especially in the area of road construction, while assuring the people of his Administration’s determination of improving the standard of living there.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Finance and Chairman, Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Co-ordinating Committee, Mr. Bassey Albert Akpan, noted with delight that the gathering of the people to welcome the Governor was a reflection of his acceptability and an indication that they had been carried along in the scheme of things.
Mr, Akpan observed that the show of love, fairness, equity and justice by the Governor had resulted in the distribution of the dividends of democracy across the length and breadth of the state.
Welcoming the Governor and entourage into her domain, the Chairman of Ibeno Local Government area, Dr. Regina Egbe who described the Governor as a man with the visionary drive, dynamism and good performance, re-echoed her people’s continuous support to the present administration, even beyond 2011.
She said that as a way of complementing the State Government’s gesture, her Government had executed many projects and enumerated these achievements to include: Godswill Akpabio’s ICT Centre; Health Centre, Okoroutip; two water projects, Iwuochang; Building of market stalls, Iwuokporo; provision of 30 sewing machines to skill acquisition trainees, among many others.
Earlier, the Secretary, Ibeno Traditional Rulers Council, Obong Effiong Achiara, while expressing appreciation to the State Government for the projects executed in their domain and describing Ibeno as the financial basket of the state, had, among other things requested for extension of a pipe borne water to the area and urged government to impress upon Mobil Producing to pay compensation for oil spillage.
