Akpabio Inaugurates Life Impacting Projects in Oruk Anam
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio has expressed happiness with the people of Oruk Anam over the overwhelming support and cooperation received by his administration from the area.
The Governor who spoke through the commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Eunice Thomas, stated this during the commissioning of ten community projects executed under the Inter Ministerial Direct Labour Committee in the area.
Expressing delight over the peace and tranquility at the project sites, Chief Akpabio thanked the chairman of the local government for maintaining peace in the area and promised that more projects will be executed in the area.
In his speech, the Commissioner for Finance and Chairman, Inter-ministerial Direct Labour Committee, Mr. Bassey Akpan who was represented by his coordinator Elder Friday Udo, expressed joy over the smooth cooperation from the communities, adding that he is pleased that majority of the projects commissioned in the area is on electricity.
Elder Udo stated that communities which have not benefited from the committee should submit their names and projects wanted to the council chairman who will in turn forward them to the committee.
Speaking on behalf of the people, the chairman of Oruk Anam, Dr. David Umo-Essien expressed sincere gratitude to the governor for the various life impacting projects ommissioned in the area, and promised to ensure that the projects are protected from vandals, adding that the people of Oruk Anam are fully behind Governor Akpabio come 2011.
Reacting to the Governor’s benevolence, the village head of Ikot Otok, Chief T. J. Akpan, thanked Governor Akpabio for the new transformer installed in his village, stating that the community was more grateful because they’ve been neglected by previous administrations and left without electricity for over 45 years.
Chief Akpan poured encomiums on Governor Akpabio and pledged the total support of Oruk Anam for him come 2011.
At Urua Ekpo, an appeal was made by the village head for the extension of electricity from the commissioned transformer to neighbouring villages, and the renovation of dilapidated school blocks in the village.
Speaking with newsmen after the exercise, the Commissioner for Information & Social Re-orientation, Mr. Aniekan Umanah said he was not surprised at the warm reception accorded Governor Akpabio by the Oruk Anam people, maintaining that the impactful leadership attributes of the State Governor had endeared him to the people of the State.
“With this overwhelming support and cooperation from the entire state, Chief Akpabio is poised to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people and subsequently place Akwa Ibom on a leading position in the global economic map.” Mr. Umanah asserted.
Meanwhile, projects inaugurated at Oruk Anam included rehabilitated classroom blocks, Mini Water Scheme and electricity in various communities there.
