COMMISSIONER CHARGES WOMEN
Women in Akwa Ibom State have been charged to play supportive role to their husbands through prayers, hard work and enterprise in developing the family and the state.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Eunice Thomas gave this charge recently when Wives of the State PDP Executives paid her a courtesy call at the Women Development Centre.
Mrs. Thomas said it was time women like Queen Esther of the Bible rose to the challenge of solving the problem of the State and Nation through a gentle spirit of devotion and prayer.
She emphasized that a virtuous woman is identified by the endearing qualities she reflect in the development of her family, adding that when the family is enhanced, the society is peaceful.
The Commissioner lauded the wives of the PDP Executives whom she noted have provided enormous support to their husbands in serving the public, explaining that they have exerted strong influence and support services in enabling their husbands dispense social amenities to the people at various levels.
She thanked the group for honouring her with a certificate of recognition as a Special Adviser and decorating her with the uniform and assured them of her preparedness to provide quality services to the group and the state.
Mrs. Thomas who observed that Governor Godswill Akpabio has transformed lives and ensured a good future for the children, said government is poised to ensure that the women of the state benefit greatly from good governance through initiating and implementing policies and programmes that would better the lots of the women.
In her speech, the President of the State Officers’ Wives Association, Mrs. Emem Imo Ibokette said the group was inspired by the Commissioner’s
hard work and proficiency in handling the affairs of the ministry.
She said the choice of the Commissioner as their Adviser was based on her excellent performance in serving the public.
The President maintained that the goal of the Association was to support their husbands to achieve the PDP manifesto, adding that SOWA have over time mobilized women to be politically emancipated and work closely with their husbands as virtuous women to step-down work pressure, while helping them discharge their official responsibilities and social obligations.
