CONSTRUCTION OF NEW ROADS IN URUAN, IKONO SOON

The State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio has given the assurance that a road to link Uruan and the Akwa Ibom International Airport is to be constructed soon. Similarly, Ikono has been assured that roads in the local government area have been captured in the 2010 budget for construction.
These assurances were given during the inauguration of development projects executed under the Inter-ministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee at Uruan and Ikono respectively.
While inaugurating 19 projects made up of mini – water, rehabilitated classroom blocks, electrification, gate house and perimeter fence in seven communities of Ikot Otoinyie, idu, Ifiayong, Mbiakong and Ekpene Ukim , Chief Akpabio, who was represented by the commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Obong Eno Akpan thanked the people of the area for their support this far
He urged them to eschew ethnic hatred and bigotry, advising that they needed unity and peace as vital factors that would propel them towards attracting good roads and related infrastructure at all times. The governor also reminded them of the need to remain steadfast in their support for his administration beyond 2011.
In Ikono, the Special Adviser on Political and Legislative Affairs, Barr. Jerry Akpan who represented Governor Godswill Akpabio commissioned electricity projects at Afaha Itak Enege Itak; a four classroom block at Government Primary School, Ikot Akpan; three classroom blocks at Primary School Mbioku Ikot Odung; water projects at Primary Health Centre, Nung Imo Nkwu and at Magistrate Court, Ibiaku Ntok Okpo; a rehabilitated dormitory block at Archibong Memorial Grammar School, Ukpom and a drainage system at High Court, Ibiaku Ntok Okpo.
Speaking at the various projects commissioning sites, the Governor commended the people for maintaining peace in their communities and urged them to send their wards to school. He urged the youths to shun vices such as joining cult groups and stressed the benefits of continually supporting his administration.
In their responses, the chairman of Uruan local government, Dr. Eventus Edem and that of Ikono, Barr. David Udoh, thanked the Governor for siting the numerous development projects in their domain and pleaded with him not to forget his promises on the roads billed for construction. They pledged their support and loyalty and assured Chief Akpabio and members of his entourage of their unrelenting efforts to work towards the 2011 project.
