Governor Commissions Another 10 Projects In Okobo

Akwa Ibom State Government has inaugurated 10 life changing and people-oriented projects executed under the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Co-ordinating Committee in Okobo Local Government Area.
The projects are: Construction of Maternity Ward at Health centre, Utime Ukuko; construction of four classroom blocks at Eweme; rehabilitation of three classroom blocks at Otieke; electrification at Itak Ekim/Okiuso; construction of Civic Centre at Offi; Mini water at Magistrate court, Okopedi; rehabilitation of High Court Complex at Nung Atai Eta; Mini water at Atiabang Eyoabiafaha; rehabilitation of Civic Centre at Ekeya and electrification at Otieke.
Inaugurating the projects, the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio who spoke through the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Prof. Etop Ekanem, thanked the people of the area for the warm reception accorded the team, describing it as an indication of the Governor’s acceptability.
Governor Akpabio assured the people of Okobo that they will not be left out in the scheme of things in the state, noting that government has a responsibility to give the are a face-lift to befit its status as an Airport town.
He enjoined the people to take good care of the amenities provided for them by the government and solicited for their continued support of his administration.
In his speech, the Commissioner for Finance and Chairman of Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Committee who was represented by the Co-ordinator, Mr. Friday Udoh thanked God for his enabling grace to execute the projects, emphasizing that it was on the keeping promise of Governor Akpabio that they are doing them. He therefore announced that communities which have not benefited from the project should submit their names through the council.
Also speaking, the member representing Okobo State Constituency in the House of Assembly, Engr. Asukwo Odiong, stated that Okobo people had come to appreciate and accepted Governor Akpabio as a visionary leader and promise keeper.
While pouring encomiums on the Governor for his transformation drive and development strides in the state, the member said that so far, over 34 projects have been executed in the area by the present administration.
Engr. Odiong used the occasion to appeal to the State Governor to link all villages in the area to the national grid as well as construct the uniting – Osu Offi – Nsie road to bring more development to the area and reiterated his people’s total support for his second term bid.
Welcoming the Governor and his entourage to the area, the Council Chairman, Deacon John Ita described the Governor’s penchant to transform the state within such a short time as legendry.
He said that when all the projects initiated by the Governor Akpabio Administration are put to use, the state will certainly be the envy of other States.
While thanking the Governor for all the projects executed in the area, Deacon Ita enumerated his own achievements to include, construction of markets, drilling of boreholes, training of youths in different trades and ICT as well as renovation of council secretariat built 21 years ago, among others, while assuring the Governor of his people’s unflinching loyalty and support as he prepares to continue in 2011 as the State Chief Executive.
Deacon Ita particularly made a case for the construction of Nung Atai – Atabong road which the Governor promised the people of Okobo during his 2007 election campaign and also providing a shorter alternative access into the airport for the Okobo people, since according to him, the diverted routes are not only long, but seem to cut off the area from every activity within and around the airport.
The Governor and his entourage were later treated to a civic reception by the government and people of Okobo at the Council Secretariat, Okopedi.
On the Governor’s entourage were the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Louisa Ukpeh, Special Duties, Mr. Enobong Umoetuk, Commerce and Industry, Dr. Emem Wills and the Special Adviser, Bureau of Public Service Matters, Mr. Sunny Akpadiaha among others.
