Governor Promises More on Infrastructure

Governor Godswill Akpabio has reiterated his earlier promise to provide more infrastructures for the people of the state, in order to improve the quality of life of the people.
Stating this during the Inter-Ministerial projects commissioning carried out in Uyo Local Government Area recently, Chief Akpabio, who was represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Enobong Umoetuk, said his administration has the welfare of the citizens at heart.
Lauding the chairman and members of the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Committee for their hard work and commitment, Governor Akpabio who said that he is deeply impressed with the level of work done, requested that the tempo at which projects are inaugurated be maintained.
Appreciating the Chairman of the area for the warm welcome accorded him and his entourage, Chief Akpabio said that more will definitely be done for the area, being the capital of the state, and added that the projects already provided be guarded and protected securely from vandals.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Committee, Mr. Bassey Akpan, represented by his Coordinator, Mr. Friday Udoh, thanked Governor Akpabio for the inauguration projects, adding that in the third trip to the area in July, sixteen more projects will be inaugurated in addition to the thirteen inaugurated this week.
Responding, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government, Dr. Chris Nyong, thanked Governor Akpabio on behalf of his people for the commissioned projects in various communities in the area, promising that he will ensure they are well protected from vandalisation.
Dr. Nyong stated that he is most grateful to the Governor for deeming it fit to provide the local government with a befitting secretariat, adding that it was a great thing of shame that the state capital didn’t have a secretariat complex until this administration. Dr. Nyong also assured that the area as a whole is solidly behind Chief Akpabio come 2011.
At Mbiabong Ikot Essien and Mbiabong Ikot Udo Owot where electrification projects were inaugurated respectively, a plea was put forward to the Governor by their respective village heads to provide adequate security for the commissioned projects and the community as a whole since the area is usually raided by robbers and hoodlums.
Projects inaugurated include mini water schemes, rural electrification, constructed and rehabilitated classroom blocks and assembly halls.
