Health Boss Lauds Medical Doctors
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Louisa Ukpeh has commended medical doctors for their selfless service in Akwa Ibom, describing them as a dependable group.
Dr. Ukpeh who gave the commendation in Uyo during a meeting with the forum of medical superintendents of government hospitals, observed that in the three years of the present administration, service delivery has improved greatly due to the good leadership qualities exhibited by the medical superintendents in the various hospitals.
While also commending the medical superintendents for coming under one umbrella body, she said the move would offer them opportunity to meet from time to time to compare notes and find ways to improve the health sector in the state.
The Commissioner however urged the medical personnel not to relax in their oars but to continue to offer effective health care services and the needed supervision to avoid a relapse to the former state.
Dr. Ukpeh said the meeting was convened to review challenges in the sector with the aim of proffering solution that will bring improved health care delivery system in the state.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Nestor Udoh, who said the welfare of the medical personnel, will continue to occupy a priority position in the present dispensation, urged doctors to continue to work hard to improve the system.
Dr. Udoh commended the chairman of the forum, Dr. Emmanuel Effiong, whom he described as a dogged fighter, adding that he has demonstrated the spirit of selfless service and sacrifice over the years and called on the younger doctors to emulate his example.
In his introductory remarks, the Chairman of the forum of medical superintendents, Dr. Emmanuel Effiong, lauded the free medical services of the Governor Akpabio administration for the elderly, pregnant women and children under five years and his overall interest in the health sector.
Dr. Effiong noted that Governor Akpabio has taken positive steps right from inception to move health sector in Akwa Ibom to an enviable height.
Commending the Commissioner for Health and the Permanent Secretaries for implementing the lofty programmes of the administration, he described the stakeholders meeting as ‘another milestone in the march towards health for all in the state’, expressing optimism that the meeting would help accelerate the implementation of health goals for the good of all.
