HONOUR AWAITS BEST REVENUE COLLECTOR - CHAIRMAN
The best revenue collector in Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service this fiscal year will be honoured with an award, Acting Chairman of the Board, Elder Etim Udofia has said.
Elder Udofia who stated this at Ibiono Ibom during as part of his tour of Tax offices in the state, urged the staff to put more efforts by strengthening their revenue base in the area.
Speaking further, the Revenue Boss thanked Governor Akpabio and the Commissioner for Finance, Mr.Bassey Albert Akpan for providing a befitting accommodation for revenue staff in the area, and called on the people of Ibiono Ibom to reciprocate that gesture by renewing their particulars and paying their taxes as and when due.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to focus on training, and called on staff to put in their best in order to realize the given revenue target and advised them to join hands with him to rebrand the image of Internal Revenue Service.
The assessment Authority Officer in charge of the area, Mr. Okon Bassey requested for a Perimeter Fence around the building to enhance security, as well as provision and furnishing of extension offices. He also implored the authorities to step up media awareness.
In Ikot Ekpene, the assessment Authority Officer, Mr. Sylvanus Ben called on the Acting Chairman, to provide a permanent accommodation, more staff and vehicles to enhance productivity and promised on behalf of staff to put in their best in order to meet the given target.
In a related development, the Akwa Ibom state Government has cleared the air on taxes paid by Exxon Mobil to the State Government. Elder Udofia who made this clarification during his tour of tax offices in Eket. said that Exxon Mobil as a corporate organisation pay tax due to the State Government and not on behalf of the Community or Eket. He appealed to tax payers in the area to exercise their civic responsibilities by paying their taxes as and when due.
Elder Udofia remarked that the people of Eket should appreciate what Governor Akpabio is doing in Eket and reciprocate that gesture by paying their taxes without hesitation.
Earlier, the assessment Authority Officer in the area, Akparawa Paul Okon, had accused politicians in the area for preventing the people of Eket from paying taxes to the State Government by spreading misleading information to the effect that Exxon Mobil had paid on their behalf.
Akparawa Okon thanked the Acting Chairman for his visit, saying that Elder Udofia is the first Chairman to undertake such tour to see things for himself. He however requested for an office accommodation adding that the rented apartment for the use by the staff is in a deplorable state.
At Onna Tax Office, the Assessment Authority, Princess Affiong Willie requested for the deployment of more staff to the area for efficient and optimum productivity.
