IKOT ABASI PEOPLE EXPRESS SOLIDARITY FOR AKPABIO
The people of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area were full of praises for the State Governor, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio, as ten projects, executed through the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee, were inaugurated.
Speaking through their spokes persons Viz the Chairman, Hotels & Tourism Board, Mrs. Mary Umana Etteudo; Clan Head of Esene, Obong Celestine Udia (X), Headmistress of Primary School, Atan Ikpe, Mrs. Comfort Nkenang and Village Head, Ikot Ata Udo, Chief Akpan Ben Ediang, the people paid glowing tributes to the Governor for the largesse which have been brought to their domain and expressed deep appreciation to the State Government for its benevolence to the Area.
The commissioned projects included: newly constructed six Classroom Block and Rehabilitated Classroom Block/Assembly Hall at Primary School, Atan Ikpe; Staff Quarters one & two at Primary Health Centre, Esene; Electrification at Ikot Akpan Edemaya; Mini Water scheme at Ikot Etetuk Ibekwe; newly Constructed six Classroom Block at Primary School, Ikot Okpo Inua; newly Constructed Fences/Gate Houses at Primary Health Centre, Ikot Usom and Primary Health Centre at Essene.
Also commissioned were projects executed by the Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Ikot Abasi Local Government, Elder Archibong Umoh, and they included: Primary Health Centre, Ikot Ikara; Town Council Hall, Ikot Ata Udo; Town Council Hall, Ete (Abiaram); Information Centre, Craft Centre; Rehabilitated Administrative Block and Rehabilitated Political Block.
Speaking at each of the project sites and venue of the civic reception organized in his honour, the State Governor, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio, urged parents to send their children to school in order to fully utilized the Free Education Policy of his Administration, adding that education is the panacea for poverty while also encouraging women to patronize the Primary Health Centres in their localities.
Speaking through the Head of Civil Service, Elder Grace Anwana, the Governor sued for peace amongst the people of the Area and the entire State, in general, expressing deep appreciation to the people for their support to his Administration and pleaded with the people to see the commissioned projects as their own so as to be able to protect them against vandalisation and theft.
Chief Akpabio, while commending the Caretaker Chairman, Elder Archibong Umoh, and his team for the many achievements they had recorded so far in such a short space of time, challenged other local government chairmen across the State to follow suit, by emulating him.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Finance and Chairman, Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Co-ordinating Committee, Mr. Bassey Albert Akpan, noted with delight that the happiness expressed by the people of Ikot Abasi for the State Government was genuine and lauded the Governor for making the people of Akwa Ibom State to feel the positive impact of governance.
While disclosing that there were still 14 on-going projects in the Area which will be commissioned in the month of June, Mr. Bassey expressed the optimism that Ikot Abasi people will stand as one in their support for the Governor’s second term bid, come 2011.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Ikot Abasi Caretaker Committee, Elder Archibong Umoh applauded the state Governor for the monumental achievements recorded by his administration and indicated that his administration has resolved to emulate the good works of the Governor to give the people a new lease of life.
Elder Umoh said that within the past four months, his administration has executed some projects to meet the yearnings of the people and promised to do more while pledging the unflinching loyalty and support of the Government and people of Ikot Abasi to Chief Godswill Akpabio’s administration now and beyond 2011.
