Ikot Abasi Receives 22 Projects
The State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio has expressed satisfaction with the people of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area for being supportive of his administration by inaugurating twenty-two people-oriented projects in the area.
Chief Akpabio who was represented by his Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr. Emem Wills stated this during the inauguration of fourteen projects embarked by the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Committee, and eight projects completed by the Ikot Abasi Abasi Local Government Chairman, Caretaker Committee.
While appreciating the support of worthy indigenes of Ikot Abasi to his government and referring to those serving in his administration as faithful and hardworking, Chief Akpabio assured the people that more life touching projects would be carried out in the area and that his government will complete everything it has started.
In his speech, the Chairman of Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Committee and the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Albert Bassey Akpan whose address was read by the Committee Co-Ordinator, Mr. Friday Udoh also appreciated the cooperation of elders and youths of Ikot Abasi especially those in the host communities where the projects are sited.
He expressed delight with the rousing welcome accorded the team at different sites of the projects describing their reception as warm and acceptable. He said, so far forty people-oriented projects have been completed and commissioned in the area between 2008 and 2010.
He thanked the Governor for the timely release of funds for the projects, and advised the villages which have not benefited from the administration to exercise patience and report their community to the council.
The projects executed by Inter-Ministerial are construction of perimeter fences at Ikpa Nung Asang, Ukpum Okon, and Ukpum Ete District Courts, construction of court hall at Ukpum Okon, rehabilitation of Judge’s quarters and its fencing at Ikpa-Ibekwe, construction of warehouse in the high court at Ikpa-Ibekwe together with mini-water scheme and construction of a drainage at Ukpum Ete district court.
While those executed by Ikot Abasi Chairman Caretaker committee are mini-water schemes at Ikpa Nung Asang, Ikot Oboroenyi, Ikot Okwo and Ukpum Ete, construction of town hall at Ikot Ukpong Ekwere Ukpum Okon 180 Utibe Ukpum Ete and electrification of Ikot Essien Enen Idem, and Uta Ewa, rehabilitation of town hall at Oboroenyin Edemaya, Internet/Information facilities in the information centre at Ikpa-Ibekwe.
In his welcome address, Ikot Abasi Caretaker Committee Chairman, Elder Archibong Umoh, commended the governor’s efforts mentioning specifically the free medical services rendered to the aged, pregnant women and children under five years in the area and extension his tenure.
Also speaking, Ete Udoh Celestine who represented the Paramount Ruler identified Chief Akpabio as Godswill Goodluck whose tenure has brought development to the state and Ikot Abasi in to support for his second term bid.
Barr. Clement Edemudoh said the people have received all the projects in good faith, stating that the Governor has proved himself a leader they can trust, thereby asking that he should please act on the oil waste contaminating their water from Cross River State.
