Mbo Staff Gets Assurance On Condition of Service
The Head of Mbo Local Government Service, Mr. Inyang Udoh, has assured staff of the council of the preparedness of the local administration to look into the problems confronting the system with a view to finding lasting solutions to enhance high productivity.
He gave the assurance at a meeting he had with the staff in the council hall of the Local Government.
Mr. Udoh who promised to forward all the complaints of staff to relevant authorities for necessary action, disclosed that the Chairman, Mr. Victor Antai, has stated his resolve to construct a new office block annex to provide more accommodation in order to decongest some of the offices that are already over-staffed, as well as relocate some departments accommodated outside the council to the headquarters, for purpose of convenience.
The Head of Service frowned at staff’s poor attitude to work, especially in the areas of absenteeism, lateness to work, discrepancies in the signing of time book, truancy and loitering, stressing that only staff who are committed to their duty would be paid salaries, as time-book would be checked at regular intervals to ensure compliance.
Mr. Udoh who also condemned acts of indiscipline and disrespect among staff, noted that it was a violation of the civil service regulation for junior staff, in any government establishment, not to show respect to their superiors, by carrying out instructions as well as subjecting themselves to disciplinary actions, when so demanded.
He enjoined departmental heads to always report recalcitrant staff under their supervision to management for necessary action and also used the occasion to announce that, henceforth, attendance at the monthly solemn assembly organized by the Council remains mandatory.
In their separate speeches, the Director of Administration, Elder Samuel Ufot and his Finance counterpart, Pastor Udoh Samuel, who lauded the Head of Service, for his ingenuity and pragmatic approach to grass root administration also called for discipline among staff and advised them to be modest in their dressing in order to enhance their image positively.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNMS), Mbo Chapter, Mrs. Nkoyo Etiemana, requested the council government: to, among other things, provide well-furnished office accommodation at health centres across the local government, pay outstanding allowances owed health staff, as applicable in other council areas and most importantly, secure available staff quarters to motivate staff to reside at the centres to facilitate prompt health care service delivery.
In her contribution, the Chapter Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Joseph Umoh, who also stressed the need for more office accommodation, called on the council authorities to, as a matter of urgency, provide public conveniences within the premises for staff use as well as make bus available to convey staff to and from work, in view of their long distances.
The meeting was also attended by all heads of departments and staff.
