NEW CSC BOSS ASSURES CIVIL SERVANTS OF BETTER DEAL

The newly-sworn-in Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, Chief Jacob Obot has said better times await staff of the Commission and indeed the entire Civil Servants.
Chief Obot who stated this recently during his maiden meeting with management and staff of the Civil Service Commission, said his tenure would witness remarkable changes and improved welfare packages for staff and urged them to continue to work hard to earn the expected packages.
He expressed appreciation to the management and staff of the Commission for the warm reception accorded him since the day of his swearing-in and pledged to operate an open door policy to allow staff to interact and share views with him on ways of improving the commission and indeed the entire Civil Service.
The Chairman acknowledged that the Civil Service Commission is the engine room of government which operates through strict adherence to rules and regulations and admonished all staff to be disciplined and eschew all vices and scandalous practices.
In his welcome address at the occasion, the Permanent Secretary in the Civil Service Commission, Mr. Eno Effiong, express appreciation to the State Governor, Chief (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio for appointing a Chairman with a vast wealth of experience and a rich resume to handle the affairs of the Commission noting that having traversed the length and breath of the Service during his working years, Chief Obot has a very good grasped of the Civil Service.
Mr. Effiong reiterated that, the Civil Service Commission is in for improved service as the new Chairman, Chief Obot serve as a good intermediary between the Civil Servants and the political class having had a good blend of politics on retirement from Civil Service
In their separate speeches, the Commissioner I and II of the Civil Service Commission, Elder Essien Ubeng and Elder Aniedo Nda respectively poured encomium on the new Chairman and expressed the hope that Chief Obot – led Commission will change the face of the entire civil service and the Civil Service Commission in particular.
In their remarks, the heads of the different departments in the Commission, Administration, Promotion, Appeals and Petition, Account as well as that of Planning, Research and Statistics, expressed delight at the choice of a versatile Chairman for the Commission by Governor Akpabio and pledged staff utmost co-operation.
The staff appealed for wardrobe allowance, official vehicles and incentives to boost staff morale and productivity.
Meanwhile, the new Chairman, Chief Jacob Obot is a retired Permanent Secretary who worked in the Ministries of Finance, Commerce and Industry, Education and Agriculture. He was the State Chairman of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) and a one time Commissioner for Commerce and Industry under the late Governor Akpan Isemin.
Chief Obot had been the Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Property Development Authority, the Chairman, Administrative Panel of Inquiry for Cross River State Housing Corporation, Chairman, Panel of Inquiry into College of Agriculture, Obio Akpa and Chairman, Panel of Inquiry, College of Education, Afaha Nsit.
Chief Jacob Obot also served as Chairman and Leader of Cross River State Delegation to the National Conference on State creation and was the first President of the Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries Akwa Ibom State.
