NOA Charges Traditional Fathers On Voters Registration

Traditional Rulers in the country have been enjoined to complement the efforts of the National Orientation Agency, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in educating the people on the need to participate actively in the forthcoming voters registration exercise.
The call was made recently by the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Alhaji Idi M. Farouk at a one-day interactive session on voters registration exercise for Traditional Rulers in Uyo.
The Director General posited that as custodians of our cultural heritage and societal values, traditional rulers have a duty not only to protect our national unity and ensure the maintenance of law and order but also to effectively participate in all programmes of government.
He said, the success of the year 2011 general elections depends on the level of enlightenment of the people and urged the traditional rulers to take keen interest in the enlightenment of their subjects on the forth coming democratic election processes.
The Director General congratulated the State National Orientation Agency, NOA for organizing the workshop to complement government efforts in enlightening the people on the electoral process.
In his remarks, the State Director of the National Orientation agency, Mr. Emmanuel Mel Udoh said, the Agency had put in place action plans as well as set up Mobilization Committees in all the 31 Local Government Areas of the State to carry out voters education campaigns to all nooks and crannies of the state and called on politicians to play by the rules.
In an eleven-point communiqué issued at the end of the one-day workshop, participants pressed for strict enforcement of electoral rules and punishment to electoral offenders as a deterrent to electoral malpractices.
