Nsit Ubium Disburses N3.7m for FADAMA Projects
In a determined effort to boost food production, Nsit Ubium local government has disbursed the first tranche of N3.7m to eighteen co-operative groups in the Local Government Area under the FADAMA programme.
Presenting cheques to the co-operative groups, the Chairman of the Council, Surv. Chris Ekpo said his administration was fully involved in the FADAMA programmes as a complimentary measure to empower indigenes of the area as well as boost the agricultural sub-sector of his government.
Surv. Ekpo who stressed that apart from payment of the FADAMA counterpart fund, his administration was committed to providing all required assistance and demands that would fast-track the success of FADAMA projects in Nsit Ubium.
The Council Boss announced the donation of two hectres of land to the Youths Council of the area to embark on FADAMA project and appealed to those cooperative groups who are yet to benefit from the grant, to remain calm as his administration was doing everything possible for the next batch of cheques to be released within two weeks.
While thanking the State Co-ordinator of FADAMA three projects, Mr. Richard Sam, for partnering with Nsit Ubium to facilitate FADAMA feat in the area, Surv. Ekpo warned the beneficiaries of the grant not to see it as their share of the national cake but to use it judiciously.
The State Co-ordinator of FADAMA three projects, Richard Sam commended the Nsit Ubium Council Chairman for his total commitment to ensuring that FADAMA projects succeed in the area.
Mr. Sam who described Surv. Ekpo as “a man with the grasp of the fountain of community development”, observed that only very few Council Chairmen in the State understood the importance of FADAMA to the development of the rural dwellers.
He lauded Nsit Ubium Local Government for the prompt payment of the FADAMA counterpart fund and announced that the next FADAMA project grant to Nsit Ubium indigenes was ready, and advised the council to facilitate the fulfillment of the FADAMA project requirements in order to pick up the grant.
The State Co-ordinator warned beneficiaries of the first tranche to be committed to their duties to ensure that Akwa Ibom State has enough food for human consumption.
The Vice Chairman of FADAMA projects in Nsit Ubium, who is also the Village Head of Ikot Inyang Eti, Eteidung Andrew Essien expressed gratitude to the Council Chairman for the prompt payment of the counterpart fund for the FADAMA programme to be rooted firmly in the area, the project will also create micro job opportunities to people of the area.
