Obio Etoi Gets New Village Head
The Akwa Ibom State Government has presented a Certificate of Recognition to Chief Eno Thompson Ekpo as the new village head of Obio Etoi, Etoi Clan in Uyo Local Government Area.
Chief Eno Ekpo, the new village head, replaces Edet Effiong Uko whose Certificate of Recognition was withdrawn recently following a Court Order.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Paul Ekpo, on behalf of the State Government, presented the Certificate to the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, Edidem Edem Silas Akpan who in turn handed over same to the new village head, Chief Eno Thompson Ekpo in the Chamber of the State Council of Chiefs.
Commissioner Ekpo disclosed that the administration of Governor Godswill Akpabio in keeping with the rule of law has complied with the court order of May 24, 2010 and has formally revoked the Certificate of Recognition issued in favour of Chief Edet Effiong Uko.
Speaking at the occasion, the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, Edidem Edem Silas Akpan thanked Governor Godswill Akpabio for accepting the court order and acting in the right direction by recognizing Chief Eno Thompson Ekpo as the rightful village head of Obio Etoi, and believes that the matter has laid to rest the 19 year old legal battle for the village headship of Obio Etoi.
Receiving the Certificate, Chief Eno Thompson Ekpo thanked Governor Akpabio for standing on the side of truth and the law while promising to justify the confidence reposed in him. He also assured that he would be objective and fair in dealing with his subjects.
An indigene of Obio Etoi who preferred anonymity, commenting on the development, maintained that the incident expressed the hand of God and that the sun is beginning to shine in Obio Etoi.
