RURAL ELECTRIFICATION: COMMISSIONER CHARGES CONTRACTORS
The Commissioner for Rural Development, Pastor Oyong Asuquo has again reiterated the need for contractors handling rural electrification in the State to re-double their efforts so as to deliver on time.
Pastor Asuquo made the call while inspecting the on going Rural electrification projects in Ukanafun Local Government Area handled by Messrs Amunice.
The Commissioner, who spoke through the Director of Electrical in the Ministry, Engr. Peter Udobang warned against non adherence to job specification and quality, as such would bring a set-back on the efforts of the present administration of Governor Akpabio in transforming the grassroots in the State.
Pastor Asuquo revealed that the State Government has in the last two years awarded contracts for the electrification of about 800 Communities in the State, assuring that before the end of this year, those jobs will be completed. He also maintained that by 2011 all the rural communities will enjoy electric power supply.
The Rural Development boss further stated that his Ministry will continue to monitor the jobs to ensure their completion on schedule.
At some of the project sites, work had reached advance stages with the poles planted, the high Tension and low Tension lines strung and the transformer substations constructed.
Meanwhile members of these communities where full of praises to the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio for the provision of the facilities in their area.
One of the indigenes of Ohaobu – Ndoki, Mr. Innocent Akuba who spoke with the reporter expressed appreciation to Governor Akpabio and stated that this was the first time they are feeling the impact of any State Government and promised to protect the project against vandalization.
Sites visited include Ohaobu Ndoki, Okpikoro village, Akpala waterside, Onweobu waterside, Ndot Ikot Edah, Ikot Anta Enen and Ikot Akpan Inyang.
